A remodel to a 1970s split level home.  The original kitchen was enclosed and separated from the rest of the living space. With limited counter space and a dining nook too small to be utilized, the existing space was in need of some improvement. Our design included opening up the walls, modifying the layout while still keeping plumbing intact, adding a built-in microwave to open up more counter space, replacing and relocating a pantry closet with a built-in cabinet pantry and adding additional countertop area.  The footprint of the kitchen remains the same but it feels twice the size as the original.

The living room received updated finishes including a new stone veneer on the fireplace, wood ceiling, and a built-in media cabinet carved out above the entry closet.

Glickman House by Ralph Anderson Docomomo WEWA is hosting a tour of the Glickman House, designed by architect Ralph Anderson in 1959. The house was completed in 1960 and custom built for Harry and Jeannette Glickman and their family. Set above a ravine on a wooded site in Seattle's View Ridge neighborhood, the residence appears as a piece of cedar-clad sculpture in a natural setting.     The tour is Saturday, September 10, 2011. For more information on this tour as well as other events hosted by Docomomo WEWA, visit them online at http://www.docomomo-wewa.org

We’d like to welcome and introduce our two newest additions to our design team at Grouparchitect.

Emily Hennigs
Emily is a registered architect with over a decade of experience practicing architecture. She brings with her an extensive background in high-end custom residential work and an eye for quality and attentiveness regardless of project scale. She loves to create meaningful spaces for people to live and work. What is meaningful differs for each client, so Emily listens carefully to clients as they describe their needs, routines, and aesthetic preferences. In her personal time, Emily enjoys making her kids laugh, curling up with a good book, fusing glass in her glass studio, and harvesting dinner from her backyard garden.

Existing home and buildings often have an inverse relationship between the age and character of the building with respect to energy efficiency – the older it is, the less energy efficient it is. Our Energy Assessment includes a brief comparison of your building’s insulation levels against current and future codes and recommended upgrades as well as an overall building envelope improvement summary for reducing energy loss. We also highlight target items such as windows and doors, appliances, and furnaces, etc which might be potential future upgrade opportunities. Our summary recommendations are provided in an overview / outline format for quick digestion for a small fixed fee.
